Semantics
OR IS IT?
Why is the phrase, “It’s Just Semantics”, killing personal and business relationships?
Answer: It’s a scapegoat phrase to blame something for why relationships fail, and not getting to the root of the issue. The real reason the relationship is in trouble is misaligned language, even though they thought there was alignment. They were using the same language with both parties creating their own definitions and expectations of that language. No one bothered to take the time to set expectations and clearly define what their words meant.
Semantics causes semantic collisions, and this can be fixed with open dialogue and taking the time to listen to one another.
Our new book is due out this year, 2026. Semantics LLC and author David Gass explore the causes for semantic collisions and how to fix them within service businesses.
